Hello, I'm Jun Szegedi-Duffield (aka Bottom Heavy), I’m an artist based in Hawaii. I work with ceramics mostly, but love trying out new things and love mixed-media, textiles and illustration. Thanks for checking out my website! :)

"Bottom Heavy" is a playful term that resonates with me in more ways than one. It references the common challenge potters often face early on when throwing pots with too-thin walls and thick bases and is also a cheeky nod to my own self-image. 🍑

I'm influenced by my tropical surroundings, inspired by the dynamism of impressionism and fauvism, and I hold a deep reverence for folk arts of different cultures. I am passionate about creating with bright bold colors, playful juxtapositions and contradictory textures.

As a member of the Hawaii Potter’s Guild and Hawaii Craftsmen, I am committed to fostering a vibrant arts community. My artistic approach was further refined during a recent artist residency at Minx Factory, Barcelona, Spain (2024), where I explored the intricate balance of fiber and clay. This experience has been integral in shaping the direction of my work.
